The first month is about the prayer, not the Quran

Most advice hands a new Muslim a Quran and a reading plan. In practice the first months are dominated by one question asked five times a day: am I doing this right? Learning the sequence of salah, and getting to the point where you are not thinking about it, matters more than covering pages.

So the feature that counts first is a prayer guide that starts at the beginning — wudu, intention, then each position with what to say — and prayer time notifications that make the five prayers land on your day without you tracking the sun.

Reading in a language you understand

You will meet people who tell you the Quran is only really the Quran in Arabic. They are describing something true about recitation and something unhelpful about where you are right now. Read the translation. Read it in your first language, with the transliteration underneath so the sounds start becoming familiar.

A short tafsir matters more for you than for most readers, because context is exactly what you don't have yet. Knowing that a verse was revealed during a specific hardship changes what it means to read it.

The part nobody warns you about

Consistency is harder for reverts than for anyone, because there is usually no household rhythm carrying you — no one else getting up for Fajr, no family schedule built around Maghrib. The structure has to come from somewhere, and at the start it comes from your phone.

That is what a daily checklist and a streak are for. They are not gamification for its own sake; they are the substitute for a rhythm you haven't built yet, and you stop needing them once you have.
